'This program is designed to help caregivers develop advanced skills for the really difficult situations when dealing with residents who have dementia. The four video-based in-service sessions provide positive video modeling of proven techniques to use when bad things happen with a resident who has dementia. They also encourage active discussion and practice by the participants.
The goal of this series is to help caregivers develop advanced techniques to use in bad situations with a dementia patient. Use of these techniques will help professional caregivers maintain a positive relationship with the patients or residents they serve as well as develop strategies to care for their own emotional well-being during difficult and stress situations. Specifically, the caregiver will learn ho to:
• protect themselves when bad things are said, incuding racial, sexual or other abusive language.
• manage personal grief and sadness when a resident dies.
